The Spirit of Beckley Community Service Award is annually given to an individual, who has, throughout his or her life, selflessly worked to enrich our area and positively affect the lives of the people that reside here. This person’s leadership and dedication of their time and their resources is exhibited without the expectation of recognition, for the personal satisfaction comes privately and without notice.

By being selected, the individual becomes the cornerstone for the Spirit of Beckley, which serves as the annual fundraising campaign for the YMCA of Southern West Virginia. Y Members and the community are asked to contribute to the campaign in honor of the recipient. All proceeds go towards the Y’s Financial Assistance Scholarship Program, which annually provides over $150,000 to families and children in need to help them obtain memberships to the Y, and access to our programs and services regardless of their economic situation.

The YMCA of Southern West Virginia is proud to recognize the kindness of this person by presenting them with the Spirit of Beckley Community Service Award. It is our hope that others are inspired by the work of this individual, and view them as an exemplary guiding light in which to follow.

The 27th Annual Spirit of Beckley Dinner will be held Monday, December 9 with the fundraising campaign kicking off on Tuesday, November 5.
