The YMCA Happy Kids Preschool is the leading provider of quality learning for children two to four years old in Raleigh County.  The program offers half day or full day schooling provided by certified, professionally trained staff with a full curriculum of academics and activities planned throughout the school year including the very popular swim program.

CURRICULUM COMPONENTS
Our students benefit from the progressive learning environment at the YMCA Preschool. Our Y curriculum helps to build reading and math readiness as well as adding components such as sign language, Spanish, swimming, and physical fitness. Our 4’s program is in collaboration with the Raleigh County School System. The Creative Curriculum is used in conjunction with the Y curriculum. The preschool benefits from this collaboration also by receiving county speech and hearing screenings, providing potential learning problem assessments and gaining school lunch benefits.

2 YEAR OLD CLASS
The two year old class begins with the fundamentals of learning and being a part of a group.  Kids in this class enjoy Circle Time, where the group gathers for teachers to share ideas, plans and observations as well as for activities designed to stimulate thinking, enrich social skills and develop attention spans; Gross-motor Activities, which give kids the opportunity to use their muscles and imaginations through fun, healthy exercises; Fine-motor Activities to help improve small muscle development and eye-hand coordination; and Art Activities to bring out creativity and concept development. Our two year old class also participates in weekly swimming at the Y!

3 YEAR OLD CLASS
The three year old class builds on the foundation built by the two year old class. Weekly in depth concepts include the Alphabet, Numbers & Counting, Writing, and Thematic Units. Fine motor skills are practiced everyday through play and instruction. Large motor skills are augmented through participation in gym time, play ground time and our one and only learn-to-swim program!

4 YEAR OLD CLASS
The four year old class rounds out our special learning environment as kids in this group are prepared to move on to Kindergarten. We combine the Creative Curriculum, in collaboration with Raleigh County Schools, and  Advanced concepts such as Sign Language, Spanish, and Special Units. Our teachers especially focus on reading readiness activities and beginning phonics education to encourage our students to become life long readers. The four year old class also participates in swimming at the Y! At the end of the year, our four year old class celebrates the move to Kindergarten with a special graduation ceremony.
SCHOOL DAY OUT! When the school is closed, the YMCA is still open!  Bring the kids for a fun-filled day of activities by participating in the School Day Out Program.
