This stage provides participants with a logical, three-level progression that helps students develop their swimming techniques in 6 classes. Students progress to the next level upon mastering the skills of their current level of swimming. Students must be able to swim 12.5 meters (half the length of the YMCA pool) unassisted.
School-Age Progressive Levels:
Level 4: Stroke Introduction introduces basic stroke technique in freestyle and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.
Level 5: Stroke Development introduces breaststroke and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.
Level 6: Stroke Mechanics refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.
